It had been Leonora Eames' childhood dream come true. She'd married Smith Ohlrig, a person worth millions. But her dream turned into a nightmare once she understands the truth concerning her husband - he could be power angry and mad! Since he will not give her divorce, she proceeds to work as a secretary in the office at NYC's lower west side of a impoverished doctor and leaves her life of luxury. Leonora becomes pregnant after she is deceived by Smith into a reconciliation. By the time she recognizes she is hoping, she and a few of the doctors, Larry Quinada (James Mason), have fallen in love. But she is again lured backed to provide her child financial security.
